Emotional mastery is about becoming aware of our feelings, allowing them to be there, and listening to the information and wisdom that they hold.

It is about taking responsibility as adults, for the things that happened in the past that caused us to make limiting decisions about ourselves. Most emotions are rooted in past pain that we project onto present circumstances. By becoming more fully aware of ourselves, as well as the factors that drive us to do what we do, we are able to show up differently in the present and create new futures.

Our shadow is made up of all the parts of ourselves that we hide, deny, suppress, and don’t see in ourselves—both the positive and the negative. We reject these parts out of shame, fear, or disapproval, and this ends up controlling how we live our lives.

Shadow Work is about accepting the aspects of ourselves that we would rather not acknowledge, instead of running away, distracting, burying issues and pretending that they do not exist. It is about seeing the shadow as a friend, rather than an enemy.
